Hegseth’s statement the the US does not wish to be “the primary guarantor of security in Europe,” reminds me of Secretary of State Dean Acheso leaving South Korea out of the US defense perimeter in the Pacific (North Korea was going to invade South Korea anyway, but it was certainly conventional wisdom there that Acheson invited the invasion https://journals.lib.unb.ca/index.php/jcs/article/view/366/578 ). Don’t think that’s a good idea at all.
